about
Simya is a word with many meanings, each with distinct depth. It means alchemy in Turkish and the gift of God in the old African language.
The ancient art of alchemy was the search for the spirit in matter. It is the practice of inner transformation through lives that consist of fractal patterns and cycles, some of which we manage to break and others we repeat again and again. Although some periods are as challenging as they are nowadays, they evolve us a lot. With each pattern, we learn to master our most authentic selves.
As the first single of the future nu-jazz album, Simya is written by singer- songwriter Sezin Angelova and produced by multi-instrumentalist and composer Jomy Jai. It is a harvest of the collaboration of many great London based jazz players. Written, played, recorded, and finished at home in the lockdown period, from the first note to post-production, including the music video.
Like alchemy, they wanted to take this emotionally and mentally challenging time and turn it into something extraordinary, maybe in a way that cannot be explained.
The theme of this song is to accept all repetitive peaks and valleys as they are and to create the joy of it.
This song is to remind us of the sacredness of each moment and nothing more.
lyrics
In a place full of dreams,
I have 3 days of honey taste
on a journey to each other
from both ends of a street
Shiny hooks and caring hands
seekers and mirrors
Creation is a bliss,
Hearts dew, souls bloom
and that’s all Simya.
